The sails on this boat are operated by a large panel in the bridge – where they have no view of most of them – so they have to communicate with an officer on the deck by vhf radio. I went to an interesting demo and talk by the staff captain yesterday – who seems to be the resident Windstar sails expert. She is writing a manual for the three sail boats on the sails. There are 7 sails on this boat – 5 on each of the two smaller boats. The main sails are the same size on them all – which is why it’s harder to “sail” this boat – as it is three times the size. It’s more of a sail-assisted motor boat. Very impressive masts and booms – its one of the largest sailing boats that there is (along with its sister ship Club Med 2).
